ABOUT
Welcome! My name is Francesca F. Singleton. I was born and raised in Italy. I have been enjoying the Alaskan life since 2015.
Drawing and painting has been my passion since before I could talk.
My career journey has brought me far from formal art education, yet I always find opportunities to learn, observe and experiment with art.
What inspires my works is often nature, its light, complexity and color. I draw and paint because it helps me “digest” and meditate on the wonderful things I see when I spend time outdoors.
Whether I contemplate a grand landscape or the tiniest flower, I wish I could keep looking at it and that other people could enjoy a little bit of that beauty as well.
My paintings can start from a photograph taken during daily personal outings, from a live subject or from observing landscapes en plain air. As for botanicals, my intention is not to dissect, analyze and label the subject. My botanical “macros” would only like to be a deep gaze into nature - awe rather than analysis.
Besides painting in watercolor I also like to experiment with other types of media and to draw with ink and pencil. I use the latter especially when representing people and everyday life. My first Alaskan drawing represented dip-netting on the Kenai River in July 2015. Since I couldn’t fish because I wasn’t a considered a resident, I decided to observe the action and put it on paper!
My art is my attempt to bring light, color, joy and peace to others. It is, to me, like offering the viewer a window or a magnifying lens, so that they would be able to keep enjoying nature even when they come indoors.
